The moment we have all been waiting for –the return of Madea to the big screens!!
The film features all-stars of the Madea franchise, including Tamela Mann (Cora), David Mann (Mr. Brown), Cassi Davis Patton (Aunt Bam) as well as a guest appearance from iconic Irish actor Brendan O'Carroll, who matches Madea's comedic prowess as Agnes Brown. (text from invitation)
Am I the only one that felt like a celebrity when that exclusive virtual screening email came through?? Tyler Perry's "A Madea Homecoming" was everything I needed this Black History Month and MORE!! First come, first served access to a private virtual screening of the film was extended to members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., as well as other organizations of the Divine 9, and it was truly an exceptional experience.
Registration and access to the film was very easy, and it felt like I had my very own movie theatre at home as I excitedly waited while the pre-views played.
Showtime was 8:30 PM and I was ready!
Tyler Perry introduced the film with touching remarks of how much fun he has bringing Madea to life, and how he wants the world to enjoy this moment of laughter and comedy.
The film opens up in flames–literally!
In addition to the exceptional comedy displayed in this film there is also social commentary as Madea, Joe, Mr. Brown, and Cora discuss the local social unrest and burning of buildings in the neighborhood. Madea chimed in to express that it makes no sense to burn buildings in your own neighborhood, and Joe added police brutality makes no sense either! Now that is something we can both agree on!!
Two worlds collide when Agnes joins the Madea family, and I'm sure we were all clutching our computers waiting to see what happens next, The varying topics at dinner, and throughout the movie, show differing perceptions on popular social discussions of police brutality, protesting, defunding the police, and more.
In true Tyler Perry fashion there was plenty of drama and plot twists that had me literally screaming! Tyler Perry never fails to shine a light on real issues in the world and somehow make you laugh until your stomach hurts at the same time. As the drama unfolded I felt a wave of nostalgia of the first time I watched a Tyler Perry production –back when they were plays!
Watching A Madea Homecoming felt like a true cultural reset and I can't wait to watch it over and over again today on Netflix.
